Canvas Transition

Overview

The University of Illinois College of Medicine is transitioning from Blackboard to Canvas as its learning management system.

Canvas will serve as the central platform for accessing course materials, assignments, and communications across the MD program.

This transition is being rolled out in phases by class year. While the platform is changing, your course content and requirements will remain consistent.

  • New login URL:
    Canvas is accessed at canvas.uic.edu
  • Course organization:
Large Blackboard courses are being replaced with separate Canvas courses by campus.
  • Improved navigation:
Canvas provides a more streamlined and consistent course experience

All MD students will be using Canvas as the College of Medicine transitions away from Blackboard. Your experience will vary depending on your class year:

  • M3 (Class of 2028): Most significant changes, including a new platform and updated course structure for clerkships
  • M2 (Class of 2029): Moderate changes, with a transition to Canvas for fall courses and an updated course structure for blocks.
  • M1 (Class of 2030): Full use of Canvas from the start of the program
  • M4 (Class of 2027): Limited impact, with minimal changes to current coursework

  • April 27: M3/M4 Canvas launch
  • July 6: M1 onboarding
  • August 24: M2 transition
